Amoibe

Graduation Exhibition-Solo Show, Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) September 2014

When I was a kid I saw a fisherman banging an octopus on the rocks furiously. Octopus has a complex nervous system and various ways of defence. Camouflage and autotomy, fleeing and ink release. But once someone sees to alienate it from its natural habitat, it dies. What becomesabsurd or fatal can also continually transforming. Earlier researchers reported the amoeba as Proteus animalcule, giving it the name of Proteus, the god of Greek mythology, who was changing forms. There is a reference that in 1822, the genus Amiba (from the Greek ἀμοιβή amoibe, meaning "change") was erected by the French naturalist Bory de Saint-Vincent.
